I’m navigating a non-intimate relationship and need clear terms and/or a contract

The world has been changing in unprecedented ways. From who we buy property with to how parents are cared for, we’re faced with challenging new circumstances. Often, these situations call for clarity between individuals in a legal capacity as well as an emotional one, which has led to new types of services becoming available, including family mediation. Although it’s not a replacement for therapy, family mediation can help develop contracts that play a key role in keeping these important, non-intimate relationships healthy.

OUR APPROACH

We’re creating a supportive space for families and friends to have important conversations, with the purpose of arriving at a tangible outcome that solves a specific problem. Although this may include an emotional dimension, our focus is usually on navigating a financial situation that requires more nuanced discussion and clarity, and some kind of legal agreement.

FAQs

  • Mediation is solution driven, meaning that we negotiate specific issues and come to concrete terms.

  • We start by sharing fees equally between the parties.

  • The process is voluntary. We cannot compel anyone to attend. We are happy to have a complimentary 15-minute call with each party to discuss and assist them in coming to the process.

  • A co-ownership agreement is a contract between people who own real estate together, but who are not romantically involved. This agreement outlines how property use is shared, how expenses are paid, what processes are involved should someone wish to dispose of the property, and other terms to ensure clarity around the shared investment.

  • This is assessed on a case-by-case basis. You are always free to retain a lawyer at any time during mediation. If you prefer not to, we will help assess whether it would be valuable.
